What is the acid wash?

 ACID WASH:

Garments made from heavy jeans & denim fabrics are washed by acid wash technique. Pumice stone is used for washing. Soda as antistant, liquid enzyme, powder enzyme acetic acid and pumice stone are used in acid wash. Irregular spotty effect can be produced in the garments through acid wash. Pumice stones are perforated stones produced by volcanic explosion. At first it is soft, but becomes cold, it seems to like the stones with rough surface. This type of stones floats on water.

One important thing about acid wash is that the process is without water so the effect will be more random and variation will to a larger extent than regular washes. So by keeping the batch size minimum this variation can be controlled. The simple relation is larger is the batch size greater is the variation in result.

 

Object of acid wash-

·         To produce irregular fading effects or old looking effect.

·         For soft feeling to wear the garments i.e to improve softness.

·         To achieve the buyer washing standard.

·         To increase rubbing fastness.

Acid Wash of Denim Trouser:-

The process of acid wash of 60kg batch of denim trouser is mentioned below-

(A) First Step: Pretreatment/Desizing

Add water @L:R = 1:10 i.e. 600 liters.

Start machine.

Add desizing agent @ = 1 gm/liters i.e. 600 gms.

Time = 20 minutes.

Drop the liquor.

Rinse one for 3 minutes (Cold)

(B) Second Step: Hot wash

Add water @ L:R = 1:10 i.e.600 liters.

Temperature = 60°c.

Time = 5 minutes.

Drop the liquor. Here hot wash is used to remove the adhering materials from the garments surface.

Unload the garments from the washing machine in the trolley.

Load the pretreated garments in the dryer machine.

Dry the garments completely & unload the garments. The pumice stones used for acid wash need to pretreat in the following chemical solution.

Water = 100 liters.

Stone Preparation

Potassium per manganate = 1000gms.

Phosphoric acid = 250gms.

Stier the solution in a stainless steel tube with dry pumice stone.

Soak the stones with chemical solution. Then the soaked stones are dried in the open air for 2 to 3 hrs.

Then pretreated garments 30-40kg per batch load in the dry washing machine.

Load the pretreated stones about 50kg in washing machine.

Start machine running for each batch for 7 to 10 minutes.

Stop machine running.

Unload the treated garment separately. Pumice stones with P.P solution hit on garment surface as a result fading will be developed. Then load the stones treated garment in another washing machine.

 

Prepared Stone

(C) Third step: Wash for cleaning

Batch weight = 70kg.

Add water @L:R = 1:8 i.e. 560 liters.

Add detergent @ = 1 gm/liter i.e. 560gms.

Temperature = 40°c

Time = 10 minutes.

Drop the liquor. Here detergent is used to remove the breaking stone dust and chemicals from the garment surface.

 

(D) Fourth step: Whitening/Neutralization

Add water @L:R = 1:8 i.e. 560 liters.

Machine running.

Add metabisulphite @ = 5 gm/liter i.e. 2800gms.

Cold temperature.

Time = 5 minutes.

Drop the liquor.

 

(E) Fifth step: Soft wash

Add water @L:R = 1:7 i.e. 490 liters.

Machine running.

Add acetic acid @ = 0.6 gm/liter i.e. 294gms.

Add softener @ = 1 gm/liter i.e. 490gms.

Then unload the garments.

 

(F) Sixth step: Hydro-extractor machine

Hydroextractor machine to remove excess water from the garments.

 

(G) Seventh step: Dryer machine

After hydroextractor the garments are sent to drying machine for complete drying.

 

(H) Eighth step: Quality & Delivery

After drying the garments go to quality checking & rectify washing fault and then good one delivery.
